Narrowed down my construction plan...

...but no sharing just yet.  ;-)

I sat down and brainstormed over the weekend and I'm pretty sure I have my neighborhood theme set.  It needs some tweaking and some work on the overall layout, but the main idea is there.  I'm looking through my stash for house patterns and I've set aside a few, but I don't know if they're quite right.

I'm also not 100% sure how large to make my blocks.  I was initially thinking 70 x 70, but some of the houses I'm finding (and really wanting to use!) are at least 50 stitches tall (and rather narrow at 20-30 stitches wide).  That wouldn't leave much room for any yard items in front of the house, but lots of room off to the side(s).  Not sure if I should increase my block sizes or find different houses...or re-work the house patterns I already have.  More pondering needed...and any input would be welcomed!

Why not forget the 'blocks' idea and just go with the flow, stitching narrow and wide houses/buildings all together. This is what I am going to do, some elements will be quite big and there will be small things to fill in the gaps.

Hi Kendra! I'm doing this go round what Sandra said to do....I'm not doing the "blocks" thingy...I think it leaves it too structured and I want mine to flow like a real neighborhood would. I'd say just start stitching and see what comes of it all...with a general idea of how many houses you want where :)

If you do make the grids, maybe you could fill in around the houses with extra landscaping, pets, ponds, fences, etc.

I am not doing blocks either. I plan to just let it flow. I have a plan in my head but who knows if it will turn out that way! I may totally surprised at the outcome! FUN!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll ponder the no blocks concept and see if it'll work with my idea. The ordered/symmetrical part of me is tossing up warnings that I must not deviate from order...but we'll see...LOL!

Hi Kendra...I am having trouble with placing my houses, and I also have the PCStitch Pro program. I'm having difficulty with it, and I wonder if you could take a moment to tell me how you are using it to get your houses on paper...If you do not have time, I understand...thank you and happy stitching.
