I've decided it's time to invest in some design software and this SAL is a good excuse! I've been thinking about Pattern Maker Pro which I've read is liked by many stitchers. Maybe some of you have used it or have another recommendation? I want to make sure I can scan in patterns that I own, then cut and paste portions of the designs into a new plan for my neighborhood. Does it scan them in exactly as they are printed? I know that with photographs, the scans may be interpreted somewhat different as the software has to convert it a graphical format, but I'm not really interested in working with photographs, just patterns. Also, does the softare just use DMC/Anchor colors? So if you want to do silks, you have to do your own conversions from DMC?

I have been thinking the very same thing; now may be the time to invest in some stitching software. One of my concerns is that I'm a Mac user. I know there's a new Mac program that came out this summer, but like you I'm looking for answers to my questions and recommendations from others.
I have PC Stitch Pro that I will be using for my town. Have pictures of Halloween buildings but hard to find the charts of the types of buildings I need. With PC Stitch pro I can scan the pics in, decide how many colors I want, use DMC or Anchor and go.
I have the trial version of PC Stitch Pro and I really enjoy it. I'm hoping to get the regular version for Christmas, which will be even better.
I put together my first house/block for my neighborhood last weekend...much MUCH easier than using pencil and graph paper!
i have a dmc chart designer programme it only gives conversions for dmc and anchor on there and i must admit i have only used it for photos sorry i could not be of much help
